Purple Starry Night is my tribute to Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night. Painted in 1889, The Starry Night is van Gogh's view from his asylum room at Saint-Rémy-de-Provence. Suffering from depression and delusions, he never knew success in life and in 1890, shot himself in the chest. It wasn't until after his suicide that his art became popular. How tragic.
I made this soap to bring awareness to mental illness and to show my support in removing the stigma often associated with it. It's time to promote healing and treatment instead of shame.
If you know of someone suffering from mental illness, do what I do... hug them and let them know you're there. If they are struggling that day, just tell them that you're sorry they're having a bad day and be there for them. Be the magick in their life. Be the person van Gogh didn't have in his.
Let my soap be a daily reminder, either to the person suffering, that you're there for them, or for you if you are a caregiver, as a reminder to be kind and compassionate. If you're the one suffering, let my soap remind you that you too are MAGICK.
