What's the difference between a Balm and a Salve? While both balms and salves provide wonderful skin protection, there are some differences in the products. Balms are typically made with higher beeswax contents giving them additional beneficial properties when it comes to skin care. The extra beeswax gives balms their harder, thicker consistence which requires them to be rubbed in more than a softer salve which is more like an ointment. Balms are designed to not be completely absorbed into your skin which allows them to provide a great barrier to the elements.
